ZERO IN: PRIVATE ART, PUBLIC LIVES
has been conceptualized to study the vast holdings of three private collections under
the umbrella of cooperation and that of collaboration. While massive blockbuster shows have been undertaken in the past—
bringing together pieces from collections under one exhibition—Zero-In does exactly the opposite. Instead of one grand
gesture to articulate an aspect of art history, instead of one location under one structure speaking one position, several positions
will be made evident about art and its history, at the same time.
ZERO IN will strive to deepen the scholarly research and public understanding of their particular collections vis-a-vis the
holdings of other institutions—for this instance the holdings under scrutiny will be the Lopez Memorial Museum, Ayala Museum
and the Ateneo Art Gallery. The exhibition is not to show the public which holdings have greater depth or wider sweep, the
exhibition instead seeks to transmit to its many publics that the breadth of Philippine art history is contained in several collections
and that these institutions should be understood within the contexts of their strengths and potentialities.
ZERO IN will enable the re-study of private collections outside of the current text of art history; focus on particular aspects
of the development of the country's artistic history by looking into specific works produced; allow the public access to primary
materials for a more insightful study of art history.
